Have you ever wondered how to create your own blog? If so, you will find a detailed answer in this article. I’ll show you how to create a blog in less than 20 minutes without programming knowledge or other technical skills. I will also give you a guide with important points on the way so that your blog will also be successful and you will not give up after a short time.
The most important thing right at the beginning: If you want to become a blogger, just do it. Setting up a blog is a child’s play and doesn’t take long. In contrast, becoming a blogger is a big task. But you will only learn to blog if you do it. The longer you wait for it, the longer it will take.
Table of Contents
1. What is the Purpose of Creating a Blog?
There are several reasons why you want to create a blog. Be aware of what drives you. The more you know what you want to achieve, the more clearly you can work towards that goal.
For example, you can achieve the following goals with a blog:
- Show that you are an expert in your field
- Learn more about a topic and become an expert
- Market your business and services
- Reach many people with your content
- Get known and have a voice
- More visibility on search engines
- Earn money with a passive income
Find a Role Model
I would also look for a role model that you can use as a guide. After all, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Find a blog that you particularly like and think about how you could present the contents of this blog even better and above all in your own individual style.
Of course, you should also define a target group and think about a story design for your blog project. I’ve explained more about this in my article about New Website Building Checklist.
Remember That You Won’t Get Rich Overnight
I have often seen in my WordPress courses that many know exactly what they want to achieve with their blog. But they are not sure what kind of niche they can best implement it in. For example, if you want to make a living from your blog’s income and have no experience, chances are that you won’t reach that goal in the first year.
So if you just want to create a blog to make money from it, you may stop blogging before you reach your goal. But if you choose a topic for your blog that inspires you, there is a much greater chance that you will persevere and stay on the ball until your financial dreams come true.
The goal is therefore closely related to the choice of your blog’s niche.
2. Find the Right Blog Niche
Choosing your blog’s niche is a very important question. Choose a topic that inspires you and drives you to write articles about it regularly. I have also created blogs many times about topics that I was particularly interested in and that I wanted to learn more about.
You don’t choose a niche until death separates you. Once you understand how blogging works, you can quickly create a new blog that focuses on a different topic. And you don’t have to be an expert in the field you want to write about. By researching and writing articles about it, you can actually become an expert in all areas. The only question is whether your motivation is sufficient to get there.
Take a Pen & Paper And Brainstorm
You can use the following questions as a basis for brainstorming:
- What would I do if I had a basic income and no longer had to work?
- What are your favorite topics to talk to your friends and acquaintances?
- Which topic would you choose if you had to hold a seminar?
- Which job is not working for you, but your favorite pastime?
- Which area do you want to learn more about and become an expert?
Which Blogs Already Exist on This Topic?
If you found an interesting topic, search Google for other blogs that already exist in this niche. Can you provide information that is even better than the information that already exists? Or can you offer your visitors something that others cannot? I’m sure you can do it.
Everyone brings their own strengths and talents that set them apart from the crowd. The only question is in which area you can best live them out in order to make a valuable contribution from which the world will benefit. And if you offer something with your blog that helps your visitors, then you also have a good chance of earning something with your blog. Because most people are willing to spend money if it helps them solve their problems.
Maybe your first niche won’t be the right one. But that shouldn’t matter. Because with your first blog you will learn a lot about blogging and also about yourself. And you will benefit from this knowledge in any case.
3. Select Blog Provider
Now we come to the technical side of blog creation – choosing the right blog provider. The blog platform is the foundation on which you build your blog. Therefore, you should carefully consider this choice. You don’t know in advance how successful your blog will be. Nevertheless, you should use a platform that can grow with you and is particularly flexible.
I definitely recommend the CMS WordPress. With WordPress you can create a blog without being able to program, you can use countless design templates with just a few clicks and all conceivable functions are integrated that you will ever need for your blog. How to install and set up WordPress, I explain step by step in my WordPress Guide for Beginners.
Why I Advise You Against Free Providers
Free blogs cost more than you think: you may think that free blog providers are very social and therefore provide their services for free. But I think you’re wrong. Free providers must also cover their costs. They will advertise on your website and try to do everything possible to make money with you. For example, if you want your own domain, you also have to pay at least USD 17 a year for free providers.
You have no control over your content: With free blog providers you do not control your content, but the platform. For example, you are generally not allowed to place advertisements or set affiliate links with which you can earn money. And if the platform doesn’t like your website, it can simply turn off and delete your blog without having to give reasons.
The later move takes time and effort: Of course, you can start with a free platform. But you should keep in mind from the beginning that moving will not be so easy and, above all, it will take a lot of time. I think it makes more sense to invest some money and have a solid platform for it that will still fit later when the blog has already grown up.
4. Create a Blog with WordPress
A web server is a server on which you can install WordPress and save the content of your website. I have already tried countless providers and recommend SiteGround, which I also use myself.
At SiteGround you can install WordPress with just a few clicks, the server is strong enough for several hundred visitors a day, you can contact the support at any time via live chat or email, and you can get your own website with a domain.
If you know a reliable web host with a better price/performance list, please leave a comment. Based on my experience, I definitely recommend SiteGround, because, in my opinion, this web host offers everything you need as a beginner and at the best price.
